POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:                               Counselor - Elementary                                                         

 

REPORTS TO:                                             Principal                                                       

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR:             9 months (192 days)                         

 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides responsive services through:
    1. Individual counseling for students throughout the school year.
    2. Group counseling with students throughout the school year.
    3. Consulting with families, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate individuals.
    4. Assisting with referrals to other school support systems or community resources.
  2. Aids in individual student planning by:
    1. Securing and making available to students and teachers information and material on further educational opportunities and personal growth and development.
  3. Assists with:
    1. English Language Learner program.
    2. Behavior Support Team
    3. Academic Support Team
  4. Demonstrates professionalism by :
    1. Abiding by the Ethical Standards of the American School Counselor Association.
    2. Adhering to board/school policies.
    3. Commitment to continual personal and professional development.
    4. Organizing office for effective use and prepares/submits reports, records, lists, and other paperwork accurately and timely.
    5. Participating in meetings as required or appropriate.
    6. Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor or district administrators.
    7. Assist in placing students in the appropriate educational program and classroom setting.
    8. Regular in person attendance. 

 

                                                                                                                                     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling (MS Code 37-9-79)
  2. Valid Mississippi Department of Education Certification

                                                                                                                                     

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience in school-site counseling.
